ECHON 6 Configurator not working due to Google Chrome bug in version 152

ECHON 6 Configurator not working on Chrome 152

A recent regression in Google Chrome 152 causes Web MIDI SysEx communication failures and extra framing bytes on macOS and other platforms, though a fix has been merged into Chrome 153.

Because this specific bug is an implementation flaw inside the Chromium browser engine (specifically affecting version 152’s MIDI 1.0 to UMP/SysEx7 translation layer), all browsers built on Chromium are impacted on the affected operating systems. This includes Microsoft Edge, Brave, Opera, and Vivaldi.

  • Google Chrome 153 was officially released on September 8, 2026.
  • Google is rolling out this update to desktop (Windows, Mac, Linux) and mobile platforms.

How to get the fix right now:

Because Chrome updates roll out in waves over days and weeks, you might still be sitting on version 152. You can manually force the update to version 153 to resolve your Web MIDI SysEx issues:

  1. Click the three vertical dots (menu) in the top-right corner of your Chrome browser.
  2. Hover over Help and click About Google Chrome.
  3. Chrome will automatically check for updates and download version 153 if it is available for your device.
  4. Click Relaunch to complete the update

Would you consider adding compatibility for Firefox or non-chromium browsers in the future?

Actually it works with any browser that has webUSB and webMIDI support. Chromium has this capabilities out of the box (just needs to enable them in the settings). That is why we prefer this as first option. Other browsers may need a plugin first but once webUSB and webMIDI is possible, then the configurator will work.
Any tests with other than Chromium-based setups always welcome to share here on the forum.
Anyway, we are planning on maybe pack a small application that can work offline but this needs to be build on macOS, Windows and Linux to have decent distribution for the users.
